The Restoration Protocol
Burnout Recovery & Resilience
From surviving to sustaining.
Your highest performers are not protected from burnout. They are the most vulnerable to it.
By the time burnout is visible, it has been building for eighteen months.
The exhaustion that reads as a bad week. The cynicism that presents as realism. The sense of inefficacy — the feeling that nothing one does actually matters — that masquerades as strategic detachment. Your people are burning. And the most capable ones are the last to say so, because saying so feels like failure.
A McKinsey Health Institute report found that nearly 1 in 4 employees globally report burnout symptoms. A Deloitte survey found that 77% of employees had experienced burnout in their current role. And the primary driver in both studies was not workload. It was the felt sense of being unseen, unvalued, and without agency.
Burnout is not a time-management problem. It is a depth problem. And it requires a depth solution.
The Philosophy
Every civilisation that endured built recovery into its rhythm. The ones that didn't — collapsed.
The Taoists called it Wu Wei — the profound intelligence of knowing when to stop pushing. Not passivity, but the wisdom of alignment: that effortless action follows from restoration, not from the perpetual expenditure of self.
Ayurveda understood five thousand years ago that depletion follows a predictable sequence through the body's energy systems — and that recovery requires more than rest. It requires a fundamental re-patterning of how a person relates to effort itself. To output. To worth.
Modern neuroscience has confirmed what the ancients practised: when the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis stays chronically activated, it does not just exhaust you. It structurally alters how you perceive threat, capacity, and possibility. A burnt-out person cannot accurately assess what they are capable of. The instrument of measurement is itself damaged.
This is why talk-based interventions fail with burnout. You cannot think your way out of a physiological state. You need a physiological intervention — clinically grounded, somatically intelligent, and individually calibrated.
That is what this programme provides.
Global Frameworks This Programme Draws From
Christina Maslach's Burnout Inventory (UC Berkeley) The world's most validated burnout diagnostic — measuring exhaustion, cynicism, and inefficacy as three distinct dimensions. We use this to identify which dimension is dominant for each individual and team, because each requires a different intervention.
Strozzi Institute — Somatic Resilience Richard Strozzi-Heckler's foundational work on the body as the seat of regenerative capacity. Resilience is not a mental attitude. It is a physical practice. We train it somatically.
Center for Courage & Renewal (Parker Palmer) Parker Palmer's circle of trust methodology — renewal through reflection and the safety of community. The insight that recovery requires being witnessed, not just rested.
HeartMath Institute — HRV Recovery Protocols Heart Rate Variability as the measurable signature of resilience. HeartMath's coherence protocols as the most evidence-based recovery technology currently available in a corporate format.
Polyvagal Theory (Stephen Porges) The ventral vagal state as the physiological definition of safety and resilience. The science of how the nervous system moves between states — and how to deliberately guide it toward recovery.
Ayurvedic Prakriti Model Individual constitutional typing as the basis for personalised recovery. Why a protocol that restores one person depletes another — and how to design recovery around the person, not the programme.
Emily & Amelia Nagoski — Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle The critical insight that most people complete the stressor but never complete the stress cycle. The physiological practices — movement, breath, social connection, creative expression — that actually discharge accumulated stress from the body.
How We Work — The Methodology
Burnout Diagnostic Ritual Not a questionnaire. A guided somatic and emotional inventory — using Maslach's three-dimensional framework, individual body-based assessment, and clinical interview to identify where each participant is on the burnout continuum, and which dimension is primary.
Energy Ecology Mapping Participants map their energy sources and drains as a living ecosystem — not a time-management exercise. What feeds you? What depletes you? What have you stopped noticing? The map is almost always a revelation.
Nervous System Reset Practice A 20-minute guided sequence combining breath, movement, and sound that produces measurable physiological state change. Participants experience what regulated actually feels like — often for the first time in months.
The Restoration Wheel Adapted from Medicine Wheel traditions — mapping recovery simultaneously across physical, emotional, mental, and relational dimensions. Because burnout rarely lives in just one dimension.
Completing the Stress Cycle Drawing from the Nagoski framework — identifying which stress cycles are incomplete in each participant's body, and using movement, breath, and specific somatic practices to complete them. The relief is immediate and physical.
Boundary as Sacred Practice The distinction between limits (permanent physical realities) and boundaries (conscious chosen agreements). A radical reframe for Indian workplace culture, where boundaries are routinely interpreted as lack of commitment. Facilitated with therapeutic skill — this is not an assertiveness training exercise.
Personal Recovery Roadmap An individual 60-day protocol built around each person's Prakriti, stress signature, and primary burnout dimension. Not generic. Not borrowed from someone else's programme. Theirs.
Manager Alchemy Session Converting managers from unconscious burnout accelerators to early-recovery resources. The systemic intervention that makes individual recovery sustainable — because individual recovery inside a system that caused the burnout is not recovery. It is temporary relief.
What Participants Walk Away With
A personalised recovery protocol — built during the workshop, owned for life, calibrated to their constitution and stress signature
Significant reduction in self-reported exhaustion scores within 60 days — tracked and measured
The ability to complete stress cycles rather than accumulate them — a physiological skill that changes everything
Reduced absenteeism and presenteeism as tracked by HR metrics over the following quarter
Managers equipped to be first-responders to burnout, not accelerators — the systemic shift that sustains everything else
A shared organisational language around capacity, limits, and renewal — removing the stigma that keeps burnout invisible
Improved retention among high-performers who previously felt unseen, overextended, and making quiet plans to leave
The Unmute Edge
Other wellness programmes address burnout as a productivity problem. We address it as a psychological and physiological one. That distinction determines whether the intervention actually works — or just provides temporary relief before the cycle repeats.
Every session is facilitated by a trained psychotherapist. We go to the root. The symptoms take care of themselves.
Format Options
Half-day intensive (Modules 1–2 + Integration)
Full-day deep dive (All 6 Modules + Integration)
Multi-session series (6 weekly sessions — deepest and most sustained transformation)
Leadership cohort format (senior leaders only, smaller group, higher depth)
Custom combination on request
Burnout does not announce itself. By the time it does, you have already lost months of performance, wellbeing, and trust.
The Restoration Protocol catches it earlier. And rebuilds from a deeper place than any wellness programme can reach.

Curriculum Overview
MODULE 1 — READING THE SIGNALS
Duration: 90 minutes
The physiology and psychology of burnout. The three-dimensional Maslach model — exhaustion, cynicism, inefficacy — applied to real workplace scenarios. The HPA axis: what chronic stress actually does to the brain and body over time. Why burnout is invisible until it is crisis. How to read the signals early — in yourself and in your team.
Key concepts: Maslach's burnout inventory · HPA axis dysregulation · Allostatic load · The burnout continuum · Early warning signals
Practices: Individual burnout assessment · Team burnout temperature check
MODULE 2 — YOUR ENERGY ECOLOGY
Duration: 90 minutes
Personal energy audit — identifying chronic drains that have become invisible through habituation. The concept of energy as an ecosystem, not a battery. What restores you at the level of body, emotion, mind, and relationship — and how much of that you are currently getting. The gap between what depletes and what restores is the burnout gap.
Key concepts: Energy ecology · Chronic vs. acute depletion · The four energy dimensions · Invisible drains · Recovery inputs
Practices: Energy ecology mapping · Depletion pattern identification · Restoration inventory
MODULE 3 — THE BODY KNOWS FIRST
Duration: 90 minutes
Somatic signals of burnout appear weeks before the mind catches up — physical heaviness, sleep disruption, digestive changes, chronic low-grade tension. Learning to read those signals as information, not weakness. The Nagoski stress cycle framework — completing what chronic pressure leaves perpetually incomplete.
Key concepts: Somatic burnout signals · The incomplete stress cycle · Physical discharge practices · Body-first recovery
Practices: Body scan for burnout signals · Stress cycle completion exercise · Somatic discharge sequence
MODULE 4 — THE ART OF SACRED REST
Duration: 90 minutes
Taoist and Ayurvedic frameworks for renewal. The seven types of rest (Saundra Dalton-Smith) — physical, mental, emotional, social, sensory, creative, spiritual — and which ones are most depleted for each participant. Yoga Nidra as the deepest nervous system reset available without pharmaceutical intervention. Rest as a performance technology, not a productivity sacrifice.
Key concepts: Wu Wei · The seven types of rest · Non-sleep deep rest (NSDR) · Ayurvedic recovery rhythms · Sacred rest vs. passive collapse
Practices: Yoga Nidra experience (20 minutes) · Personal rest audit · Rest prescription by type
MODULE 5 — BOUNDARIES AS ARCHITECTURE
Duration: 2 hours
Building sustainable structures for work. The clinical distinction between limits and boundaries. Why high-performers struggle most with boundaries — and the psychological roots of that struggle. Saying no as a leadership skill and an act of organisational care. Practical frameworks for boundary-setting in Indian hierarchical workplace culture — where "no" is culturally charged.
Key concepts: Limits vs. boundaries · The psychology of over-commitment · Boundaries as self-respect, not selfishness · Cultural context of Indian workplace hierarchy · Sustainable performance architecture
Practices: Boundary archaeology · The boundary conversation framework · Sustainable commitment protocol
MODULE 6 — THE MANAGER'S ROLE
Duration: 90 minutes
The manager is either the first line of burnout prevention or the primary cause of burnout acceleration. This module gives managers the clinical knowledge, observational tools, and relational skills to become early-intervention resources. Includes team-level systemic causes — because individual burnout in a sick system is not an individual problem.
Key concepts: Manager as first responder · Systemic vs. individual burnout causes · Early intervention framework · Creating conditions for recovery · Psychological safety as burnout prevention
Practices: Team burnout observation checklist · Manager conversation protocol · Systemic audit tool
INTEGRATION SESSION
Duration: 60 minutes
Personal 60-day recovery roadmap. Team sustainable-practice agreements. Manager first-response protocols. 21-day guided audio practice library access.
